Frequent Questions

What is the "Early Bird" discount?

Teams that sign up "early" will automatically receive a $25/team discount on their registration fee.  If you miss the "Early Bird" team registration deadline of Tuesday, June 4, you will miss out on these savings but can still sign up.

When is the Registration Deadline?

The team registration deadline for Hoopla XXV is Tuesday, July 9.  The Kona Ice Friday 2x2 Tourney and the Chuck E. Cheese Thursday 1x1 Tourney registration deadline is Saturday, July 20.

Can a player be on more than one team?

Yes - as long as you don't try to play on more than one team in any one division! Playing on two teams in the same division is NOT allowed. If you play on more than one team, you need to notify Hoopla at oregonhoopla@gmail.com on or before the Team Registration deadline of Tuesday, July 9. Hoopla will do its best -- without any guarantees -- to avoid game time conflicts on Saturday. On Sunday, we cannot control the schedule and bracket play.

How many games will we play?

Every team is guaranteed a minimum of four games; usually three during pool play on Saturday and at least one during our single-elimination bracket play on Sunday. Getting to play 5 or 6 games, however, is not uncommon at Hoopla.

In which division should we play?

Hoopla's divisions are broken down by age and competitive desire, not grade or by other means. So, for Hoopla's youth divisions, teams should sign up according to their players' ages on 6/1/24. To play in the 10U Girls Division, for example, ALL players on a team must be 10 or less on 6/1/24. This is a hard and fast deadline for all age-based divisions.

Any prizes?

Any prizes for Hoopla XXV will be announced at a later date.

Are there All-Time Player Rankings?

Hoopla has developed a HATER (Hoopla All-Time Efficiency Rating) list, with points awarded for team success in the event. This prestigious list recognizes all Hoopla players who ever played on teams that finished first or second in tournament play and ranks them based on those achievements.

The updated HATER list will be revealed soon.

When are Saturday schedules posted?

While it sometimes happens earlier, Saturday schedules for Hoopla will be posted online by 5:00pm on Thursday before the tournament.

When are Sunday brackets posted?

While often posted much earlier, Sunday brackets will be available by no later than 10:00pm Saturday night.

What if a team wants a refund?

Should a team sign up to participate in Hoopla but later want a refund, Hoopla will happily provide a full refund as long as the request for refund happens BEFORE the registration deadline (July 9). Once the registration deadline happens, Hoopla will offer NO REFUNDS for any reason. This policy recognizes the fact that game schedules are written; officials are recruited and scheduled; volunteers are recruited and scheduled; courts, facilities, amenities, supplies and more are purchased; and the entirety of the rest of the event is planned and investments are made based on the number of registrants Hoopla has at the point in time of the registration deadline. Thus, teams that for any reason want to cancel or drop from the event after the deadline create significant logistical issues for Hoopla. Player issues after the registration deadline are the responsibility of participating teams, not Hoopla. Any player or team disqualified from Hoopla for behavioral, sportsmanship or other reasons forfeits their entire entry fee and will not be entitled to any refund of registration fees regardless of when the disqualification occurs. Further, in the event of cancellation due to weather deemed to be inclement or unplayable as solely determined by Hoopla officials, or in the event of a cancellation for any other reason whatsoever aside from any Covid-19 postponement, no refunds or exchanges will be issued.
