Jim Blackman Hoopla Hall of Fame

blackman_jim01 Before entering its 10th year as Oregon's largest and most prestigious 3-on-3 Street Basketball Tournament, Hoopla established a Hall of Fame to honor the founders of the event, longtime sponsors, loyal volunteers, and accomplished participants. The inaugural class of twelve inductees helped set the foundation for what is one of the most unique and special events you will find. The Hoopla Hall of Fame is named after and dedicated to one of the original sponsors and longtime Hoopla supporter, Jim Blackman.

Jim -- affectionately known as "Bop" to many! -- meant so many things to this event. His company, Kilgore-Blackman Building Materials, has been a sponsor since the first days of the event. In the first eight years of the tournament, Jim never missed one day of competition. He loved to sit and watch with pride how the streets in front of the Capitol Building would, literally within hours, be transformed from a main thoroughfare to a small town dedicated to the game of basketball.

Sadly for all of us, Jim passed away in the summer of 2007, the day after we finished our 9th tournament. It is with great pride and joy that the Hoopla Hall of Fame is named in his honor and serves as a small memory of him. We miss you Bop!
