Meet Jim.

Jim has been in the cleaning business since 1988, when he started working under his mentor Ed Smith at Moonlight Maintenance, in Stayton, Oregon.  In 1994 he finished college and returned to Moonlight Maintenance, this time as an Operations Manager.  Then, in 1995, he and a colleague took ownership the company.  For the ten years he and his partner ran Moonlight Maintenance, had up to 17 employees, and the company did very well.

In 2005, Jim split off from Moonlight Maintenance to start his own company: Sparkle and Clean Janitorial.  During the 13 years since, he has formed working relationships with the City of Salem, Chemeketa College, along with many other businesses in Salem, Woodburn, and other outlying areas.

Sparkle and Clean has two van-mounted carpet cleaners, which has allowed them to also see a lot of success in the residential market as well.

Some introductions…

Isaac was our first son. Born in October 1998 with a heart problem, he only lived for two months before we lost him on December 29th of that year.

Isaac’s Room is our effort to extend the family love and support that we would eagerly have given Isaac throughout his life to the young people in our community who have suffered from a shortage of it throughout theirs. Just as the room that Isaac was supposed to live in is physically empty and therefore available, the space we make in our lives for our own kids is now available through Isaac’s Room.

So IKE is a nickname for Isaac, the IKE Box and Isaac’s Downtown are the street names and “storefronts” of Isaac’s Room in the community. The IKE Box and Isaac’s Downtown are places where we look after each other and encourage each other to pursue our best life possible, just like we would have done for Isaac. It is, appropriately, like a family.

Our family tree has a lot of branches – we do concerts and coffee and event hospitality, we offer a life-development program called IKE Quest, and we are home to many other interesting groups and cool projects – but bringing it all together is this place in town called the IKE Box, named after this space in our lives, a creatively devoted space for fellowship and belonging one to another, a space we call Isaac’s Room.

We hope that when you walk into the IKE Box or Isaac’s Downtown, you can feel that you’re walking into a story. And we hope you walk in sometime soon.

YOU GOTTA SEE WHO'S AT THE CCC!  At the Capitol City Classic, mid-Willamette Valley basketball fans are treated to some of the most talented players and high school teams in the country in a nationally-recognized tournament.  The boys bracket involves 16 teams competing in a boys basketball tourney at Willamette University.  The 2019 boys event featured Rancho Christian and 7'0 Evan Mobley, the #1-rated player in the Class of 2020 by ESPN; the 2020 event had five players ranked in the Top 50 nationally before it was canceled by the pandemic; the 2021 field featured 5-star Alabama commit Brandon Miller, a 6'9 wing who shined as was taken #2 in last year's NBA Draft.  In 2022, the CCC boys featured powerhouse programs Modesto Christian and St. John Bosco, along with Oregon's top-rated team and player in West Linn & Jackson Shelstad.  Our field in 2023 had five star prospects Tounde Yessoufou of St. Jospeh's (CA), Meleek Thomas of Lincoln Park (PA), and Drake Powell of Northwood (NC) in an event that also featured so many of Oregon's best teams.  Our 2024 field had three five star players who are ranked in the Top 5 kids in the country in their class on the boys side in Jason Crowe, Jr., Alijah Arenas, and CJ Rosser. The CCC is committed to Mid-Willamette Valley basketball and has a bevy of strong Salem-Keizer area and Oregon teams, as well. Equally exciting will be the Capitol Toyota Girls Bracket, which will have 16 teams as well in 2025, and will feature an out-of-state power once again. The Capitol City Showcase presented by Chuck E. Cheese is a youth tournament for boys and girls in grades 3-8 held in Salem-Keizer, Oregon held at multiple locations. Three divisions per gender -- Open, School Competitive, & School Recreational -- allow for competition to suit every team. Affilated with the Capitol City Classic high school event and a community-driven tourney that offers many perks you will not get in any other tourney -- this is NOT just another for-profit, chain event.
